On 5th April 2014, H2O Maritime presented the important topic of MLC to the professional superyacht captains of the ITALIANYACHTMASTERS association.
The topic was presented in the magnificent facilities of the Marina di Loano Yacht Club and was participated by a large number of the prestigious captains who are associated with ITALIANYACHTMASTERS.
The workshop included an introduction to the topic through an overview of the Maritime Labour Convention and its objectives. As well as the specific areas of the regulations and code that affect the yachting industry and the measures required to be implemented onboard yachts to obtain certification, and ensure ongoing compliance between inspections. H2O Maritime went deeper into the details of the preparation of the DMLC Part II, which is the document that is required to be prepared by the shipowner (or his representative) in order to demonstrate ongoing compliance through the procedures being actioned onboard. The numerous benefits of compliance were highlighted as well as the principal points which have emerged from Port State Control and Flag State inspections, since the regulations came into force.
The workshop was concluded with an interesting discussion between the H2O Maritime representatives and the professional captains who participated, and were already very knowledgeable on the subject of the convention. The main points, which emerged from the discussions were, the Seafarers Employment Agreement and the social security benefits for Italian seafarers who work on either EU or non EU Flag vessels.
The day’s event was concluded with a delicious lunch at the Zeffirino restaurant, which overlooks the fabulous Marina di Loano. The lunch was hosted by the board of directors of ITALIANYACHTMASTER association.
